Plagons in a world of paper

In commemoration of the European Heritage Days 2019, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza is proud to present the special exhibition titled “Plagons in a World of Paper” at the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis.

This exhibition is a tribute to “Plagons”,colorful clay dolls of antiquity, and showcases reproductions of discoveries from the nearby region of Ambracia as well as original artifacts from Nicopolis. Its aim is to illuminate the development of this plaything from the classical to the Roman era. Clay Puppets are spotlighted both as playful objects and artistic creations that continue to inspire contemporary artists.

Modern-day “Plagons” created by the talented siblings Roula and Sofia Tzima, enrich the exhibition’s narrative. Such“Plagons… in a World of Paper” are directly inspired by the clay dolls of antiquity. Transitioning from clay to paper, these small works of art are meticulously crafted from recycled paper, concurrently promoting “an artistic perspective to upcycling,” in the words of the creators themselves.

The exhibition is open to the public daily, 09:00 – 16:30.
Free entrance.
