Gazing at Nicopolis

As part of our participation in the European Heritage Days (EHD) 2020, themed “Cultural Heritage and Education: lifelong learning,” the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza has curated a digital album dedicated to Nicopolis and its historic monuments.

Titled “Gazing at Nicopolis,” this initiative aims to compile and present a diverse collection of materials (including photographs, paintings, press publications, drawings, poems, documentaries) that have been graciously shared with us by both the general public and official entities within the local and broader community, in response to our invitation.

Comprising over 120 images spanning from 1780 to the present day, these images weave “miniature tales” about Nicopolis’ monuments and the city of Preveza. We invite you to explore these stories.

Furthermore, we want to emphasize that our invitation to submit relevant material remains open. Our objective is to establish a digital archive for Nicopolis that is accessible to all, and when circumstances permit, to host temporary exhibitions at the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis.

We therefore eagerly anticipate your observations, comments, and suggestions.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have kindly responded by sharing and granting the use of their materials. Our collaborators include:
Artifactory, General State Archives Preveza – Spyros Sklavenitis, Municipality of Preveza – Department of Culture, the Public Library of Preveza, The Archaeological Society of Athens, The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation Archive, the Aktia Nicopolis Foundation – Nikos Karabelas, Onassis Foundation, Italian School of Archaeology
