Exploring the Scenery of Nicopolis

Since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has designated May 18th as International Museum Day, with the mission of emphasizing the role of museums in contemporary society. The celebration aims to “strengthen education, promote mutual understanding, peace, and cooperation between peoples.”

The theme chosen for the 2016 celebration is “Museums and Cultural Landscapes.” Museums have an inherent connection to the landscapes that envelop them. Their primary duty involves the preservation and stewardship of cultural heritage, whether located within the museum’s physical confines or in the world outside it.

In conjunction with the Hellenic Photographic Society of Preveza, which has played a significant role in the city’s cultural events and the promotion of its cultural heritage since 2008, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza is participating in this year’s International Museum Day celebration. It is organizing a photography exhibition with a specific focus: “Exploring the Scenery of Nicopolis.” The exhibition strives to facilitate direct communication and interaction between the public and the museum, featuring photographs taken by the city’s residents capturing the landscapes and monuments of Nicopolis.

The exhibition’s opening is scheduled for Wednesday, May 18th, 2016, at 19:00 hosted in the outdoor spaces of the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis. At 19:45, visitors to the museum will be treated to a musical performance in the museum courtyard by students from the Music School of Preveza.

The exhibition is open to the public daily from 09:00 to 15:00.
Admission is free.
