Citizens of the Polis
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza is delighted to present the photography exhibition by Preveza’s local photographer Spyros Vangelakis, titled “Citizens of the Polis”, at the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis. Through Vangelakis’ lens, this exhibition showcases images of cities and monuments, while also capturing the vibrant human element.
It is part of the European Heritage Days 2017 celebration, a European program initiated by the Council of Europe in 1991, with Greece joining in 1996. For the years 2017-2018, the focus of this celebrationwasthe “POLIS,”i.e., cities, whether ancient or contemporary, large or small, significant or less renowned, offer distinct narratives that shape both Greece’s and Europe’s history.
The celebration aims to shed light on the city as a living, continually evolving cultural phenomenon across all its dimensions: demographic, social, economic, political, and its dynamics, with horizontal and vertical mobility, participation and marginalization, integration and exclusion.
The exhibition’s opening is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th2017, at 19:00. Mrs. Anthi Angeli, the Head of the Ephorate, will deliver an introductory presentation on the “POLIS” theme of the European Heritage Days and the activities of the Ephorate of Preveza Antiquities.
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 09:00 to 15:00.
Admission is free.
